Homemade Bath Bombs!

A little while ago, I tried to make bath bombs and I failed miserably.  I think it was a combination of the humidity and because I didn’t slowly add in the liquid to the dry mix.  So, here I am again with a whole different recipe and different essential oils.

This time they turned out GREAT!  I was so happy when I went to get them out of the molds and they were perfect, well, kind of.  I had a hard time with the flower mold, but just because they’re not exactly pretty, doesn’t mean that they’re failures.  I can’t wait to make more with the essential oils I have from before.  It’s so exciting!

Ingredients:
2 cups Baking Soda
1 cup Citric Acid
1 cup Cornstarch
3 tsp Almond Oil
1 tsp of Essential Oils
Food coloring.
Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle.

Directions:

Add all of the dry ingredients into a large bowl and mix well.  (For this to show up well, I had to make the picture darker.)

Combine the almond oil and the essential oils in a separate dish. (This picture would just look like water in a bowl, that is why there isn't one.)
Slowly add the oils to the dry ingredients, mixing as you go.
Add in the food coloring while mixing. (For the first batch, I tried adding the food coloring to the oil, which didn't work out well.  It didn't mix.  So, don't try that.)
Spray the mix with the rubbing alcohol a few times, until the mix looks like damp sand.

Press the mixture into the mold of your choosing
Lightly mix the top of the bomb with alcohol, then let dry.

I had little bit of trouble with the blue flowers, but eventually they did dry out and I have a total of 12 bath bombs.

The flowers are mint and the hearts are lavender.  The smell amazingly and work perfectly!
I love them.

DIY: Bath Bombs Fail:

I'm sorry that this pic doesn't have coconut oil pictured in it, I forgot about it until after I took the picture, didn't think about taking a new one, and now I don't have all of the ingredients to retake.  My apologies!
Ingredients:
8 oz Corn Starch
4 oz Baking Soda
4 oz Citric Acid
3 oz Coco Butter
2-3 Tbsp Sweet Almond Oil
2-3 Tbsp Coconut oil
½ tsp Essential Oil
Food Coloring
Silicon Molds

Directions:

Combine the dry ingredients into a large bowl and mix them up a bit.
Add in the liquid and oil (Except for the essential oil) into the mix by hand.
Add in the essential oil.  The measurement is really just a guide line, you can add more into the recipe if you want a stronger smell.

Press the mix into the silicon mold and let them dry out.  This may take a few days.

This DIY went terribly wrong for me.  Not going to lie.  None of the bombs came out in their shapes, so I rolled them into balls and went from there.  (They're really crumbly so it was a little difficult.)  I plan on trying again as soon as I can get the products that ran out, and I will post again.

I decided to try out one of the smaller balls, to see if they would fizz up, and it did, but it didn't completely dissolve.  But, it is very moisturizing.

So other than this not working out, it was a fun experiment, and when I try this again, if successful, I will have some tips for how not to turn out like this.  It took about two weeks for them to finally dry out where it should have only taken a few days.

Side Notes:
I had two essential oils so what I did was split the mix into two different bowls.
Also, when adding to the molds, I accident put too much in the dish, so add sparingly!  The mix rose, just keep that in mind.

And I had a hard time finding both sweet almond oil and citric acid.  I found the sweet almond oil at Harris Teeter and I found the citric acid in the canning aisle at Walmart.  Just in case you want to make them, and also have a hard time.

Bows Update:

A few months ago, I posted this blog post on my bows, and today I'm updating my collection.  I made them all myself, and it's true what they say, practices makes perfect.  I have a few bows that are made from the same fabric, mostly the brown with blue dots, because either they vary in size, or I didn't like the first one.
My favorite one is the cow print in the back. (Let's face it I'm a sucker for cow print.) It's also the biggest one I have made.  I wore the green and black one on Halloween, and everyone loved it.  Anytime I'm wearing my bows, someone tells me how cute they are, and better yet, they are so easy to make.
Here they are, almost in size order, the last three are pretty much the same size.
I feel like bows give an extra "oomph" to an outfit, and there are so many different fabrics out, there's an endless possibility to the style.

Hair Bows, anyone?

Recently, I've gotten into DIY projects and the first one that I tried was making hair bows.  My first one was horrible, my second was nice, 3rd and 4th I hate, 5th and 6th are cute, and my 7th, 8th, and 9th, are okay.  I currently do not have a picture of my 7th, 8th, or  9th, and I will never have a picture of my first, but here is what I have.  And to be completely honest, I'm proud of them.
The brown ones are my 3rd and 4th

This one is my 6th
