Mixed Drink:Southern White Rose



In this post here I talked about all of the things that you can mix with Rum Chata.  Recently I  found a new recipe that included the liqueur, and I just had to make a post about it.  The drink is called a Southern White Rose, and it’s AMAZING.
 The drink itself, is a creamy mix of strawberry from the Tequila Rose, spicy from the Rum Chata, and a small kick from the Southern Comfort.  All three of these drinks I enjoy by themselves, but mixed together it's like it takes the best parts of each drink and puts emphasis on them.

Looks like I can't spell Tequila. Oops.


To make this drink, just add equal parts of all three ingredients to a shaker, pour into a shot glass, (or if you want a bigger glass), and enjoy.

The history of Thanksgiving!

Like I said in this post here, I was going to do some research on Thanksgiving to find out why in the US we celebrate a meal that was followed by not so nice events.  My idea of thanksgiving was pretty close to what it was, but there is so much more to the holiday.   While doing my research, I went into school mode and wrote over four pages of information, and I felt like that was way too long so I decided to shorten it.  Hopefully, it’s still not too long.  

So, in summary, Thanksgiving as the holiday we celebrate today, really doesn’t have a link to the thanksgiving that was around before Abraham Lincoln.  The day that everyone is taught in elementary school is when the feast happened between the pilgrims and the Native Americans in 1621.  They were celebrating a successful harvest, and invited the Native Americans to feast with them, thanking them for saving their lives.  There was another celebration in 1623, but this one was celebrated in late July. 
The thanksgiving that was around before Lincoln, was colony based.  They decided when to have a day of thanks and they would thank God, Military victories, and an exceptionally great harvest.  The first nationwide celebration was in December 1777, when there was a military victory.  After that the colonies went back to celebrating whenever they saw fit. 
 In 1782, a proclamation was published giving a set date for thanksgiving and in November of that year, the last Thursday of the month, the first set thanksgiving was celebrated.   Even though this was a set date by the House and Senate, some presidents didn’t really acknowledge the date, and yearly nationwide celebration was spotty, until 1863.  That was when Lincoln came in and made Thanksgiving a national holiday. 
Thanksgiving was celebrated every year on the last Thursday of November up until 1939. November that year has five Thursday‘s instead of four, and FDR moved the celebration to the fourth Thursday, because it was better for businesses to have an earlier date. (Back then, it was considered rude to advertise Christmas sales. It also gave more time to shop for presents.)  The following two years Thanksgiving was moved up to the 2nd to last Thursday in November until 1941 when it was made into a federal law that Thanksgiving would always be the fourth Thursday in 
November.  
 If you know anything about Thanksgiving, then you know Turkeys are a very big part of the day.  That is because in 1947, the National Turkey Federation donated a live turkey to be killed for dinner.  There were a few presidents that decided that it was best not to kill the turkey.  Kennedy was the first to spare the turkey’s life, then a few years later Reagan gave the turkey a pardon.  A little while later George H.W. Bush made the pardon permanent. 
Other than turkey being the dinner tradition, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet corn, squash, and pumpkin pie are all served.  The reasoning is because all of these foods are native to the Americas/ were introduced to the Europeans. 
The other traditions are parades and football.  There are parades everywhere, but the biggest are the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, and the one in Detroit, America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.   I don’t watch either, but when Thanksgiving is over at my aunt’s house, the football game is on.  At my house we don’t have a T.V. that can be seen in the living room area upstairs, so we just talk. 
Just like I questioned in my original post about Thanksgiving, there is some controversy over celebration a tradition that is so much about the pilgrims.  There are some who do not celebrate Thanksgiving because of that reason, and there have even been some protests against the holiday.

Bows Update:

A few months ago, I posted this blog post on my bows, and today I'm updating my collection.  I made them all myself, and it's true what they say, practices makes perfect.  I have a few bows that are made from the same fabric, mostly the brown with blue dots, because either they vary in size, or I didn't like the first one. 
My favorite one is the cow print in the back. (Let's face it I'm a sucker for cow print.) It's also the biggest one I have made.  I wore the green and black one on Halloween, and everyone loved it.  Anytime I'm wearing my bows, someone tells me how cute they are, and better yet, they are so easy to make. 
Here they are, almost in size order, the last three are pretty much the same size. 
I feel like bows give an extra "oomph" to an outfit, and there are so many different fabrics out, there's an endless possibility to the style.

I’m a sucker for a good sunset:



There are many times in the evening when the sun is setting and it is just so beautiful, I have to have a picture of it.  I’ve come to realize, now that it’s winter, that if you see it, you can’t wait to take the picture, because the sun will be gone almost instantly. (I've misses a few amazing sunsets.)
 Here are a few of the pictures I've taken over the past couple of months, most of which were taken while moving. (Someone else was driving.) 

 Also, just a little tidbit, I’m no photographer, and I’ve never taken a photography class, so these are just some simple snaps that I took.

10 Things I wish I had at this very moment:

When I'm having a stressful time, or if I'm moving way to fast to function, I like to take time and write down a list of things.  Doing this, my only focus is on the list and it gives me a few moments of breathing, and my mind stops racing.  It's calming, and I figured I should share my list every now and again.  They'll most likely be selfish, or simple things that I could do, but can't find the time to do them.

A nice cup of tea. 
Longer daylight time. 
No laundry to do. 
A cleaned closet. 
A fixed drain. 
Someone to walk with me. 
Less procrastination. 
IHOP. 
A manicure. 
Perfect eyebrows.

Not the best list, but few calm seconds is nice.

Mixed Drink: Pinkeapple Upside down Cake



If you saw my other two recipe posts (Here and Here) then you would know that I when I find a recipe I like, I write it down into a notebook and when I get a chance I make it.  The book is mostly alcohol drinks, but that is only because I have been hoarding alcohol recipes for a while now.   I noticed that I had a can of pineapple juice left over from something else, so I decided to see if I had any recipes that used pineapple juice, and I did, Pineapple Upside-down Cake Shot.  

This is one of those recipes that you can make larger if you want; all you have to do is keep the parts even.   It is a lot better if you keep all of the ingredients supper cold, so using a shaker is best.  If you want it to be more aesthetically pleasing then wait to add the grenadine.  

If all 3 ingredients are shaken you’ll get an orange-y pink colored drink with a little bit of foam at the top.  If you keep the ingredients equal you’ll just taste the pineapple with a small kick at the end of vanilla.  It’s a very smooth drink, and like I said before you can double the ingredients to make it a bigger drink.   I gave this drink 3 out of 5 stars, and I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a pineapple sort of drink.

The day I fell in love with Estee Lauder!



At the end of October, there was a flyer in the mail for Peebles.  Usually I ignore them, but this time the products caught my eye.  It was a free gift from Estee Lauder, if you spend over a certain amount of money.   So when the time came around I went shopping with my mom to see if there was anything interesting to get.  My mom ended up getting an Estee Lauder perfume, and I got the free gift.  Inside of the gift was two jars, one big one small, of Advance Time Zone cream, a cream eye make-up remover, a lip conditioner,  a lipstick, and a mirror. 

My favorite is the Advance Time Zone.

 I have been using it for about two weeks now, and I have definitely seen a result.  Not so much around my eyes, but on my forehead.  It’s so creamy and smooth.  So much goes so far, and I just love it.  It also smells perfect.  It’s a light sent of creamy goodness, which is not something I am used to.  My other moisturizer smells like sunscreen mixed with a harsher cream.  
 I am also extremely happy with the cream eye make-up remover.  I have never used a cream to remove my make-up, but I am completely in love with it. 

  The lipstick is called “Candy Shimmer,” and it’s a very pretty pink.  The only reason why I’m not satisfied with the lip product is because I think that it dries out my lips, but it is long lasting. ( The reasoning behind the drying out could be because of the lip conditioner that came with it, or because of the weather.  I just have yet to test out the lipstick solo. ) Also, the other con of the free gift is the pattern.  It’s an odd feathery-jungle vibe. 
I fell in love with Estee Lauder because of this free sample pack, but unfortunately I still cannot afford to buy it consistently.  Hopefully the stuff I have now will last quite a while, at least until my birthday.  Estee Lauder for my birthday and by then I should have a job so I can get the products whenever I wish.

L.A Colors

The other day I was flipping through one of my mom’s magazines, and I came across an ad for a make-up brand that I have never heard of called L.A. Colors.  The colors looked really vibrant and pretty, and then I found out that they’re cheaper than drugstore brands.  To be honest the cheapness kind of put me off because I have never had good luck with cheaper make-up.  The pigmentation is always off, and it never stays on.  But my curiosity took the best of me, and I looked up some reviews on the internet which persuaded me to go into town and buy some of my own.  I picked out two palettes, a blush, and mascara.

 The eyeshadows are so pigmented, but make sure your eye lids have no oil on them or you’re using a primer, because I had a creasing issue when I had more oil on my eyes.  Other than that L.A. Colors eyeshadows are AMAZING.  They have some very bright colors to very neutral colors. The palettes that I chose are pretty safe colors, their names are “Wine and Roses” and “Tea Time.”  I plan on going back and buying more, eventually, maybe even daring to get the brighter colors. 
 
I only chose one blush and one tube of mascara.  The blush is called “Blushing Pink,” and it’s very nice, it’s long lasting, but you have to be very careful on how much is on the brush, because it will stay at that consistency.  The mascara on the other hand is a little off.  It says that it has double the volume, but I did not get that.  It was also very clumpy.  I might try a different kind, because they have a few types, but I’m not running to the store to get it. 
 
So, if you're trying to save money, then see if you have a store near you that carries L.A. Colors.   The only down side is that the cases are very difficult to open.  I struggle each time, but things could be worse.  
The palettes cost $1.50 each, the blush cost $2, and the mascara cost $2.
